This photo for me represents the effort of all those men who daily go up and down the crater of the Ijen volcano and who courageously expose themselves to the toxic gases and all the dangers associated with this work, the extraction of sulfur.

This is considered one of the 5 most dangerous jobs in the world and the average life expectancy of workers is around 50 years.

Dressed in clothes worn out by hard work, they know well the price they pay for entering this territory. Their bodies, bent by the weight of the baskets (between 70-90kg) they carry, testify to the hard work in the bowels of this volcano.

The suffering faces of these men, accompanied by the sound of a constant distressing cough, made this one of the most intense experiences I have ever had!

Their faces tell the story of a difficult journey, of a tireless fight for dignity and survival. They are men who rise before the sun, who risk their lives every day, but who, despite everything, maintain a flame of hope.

So when you look at this photo, it allows you to feel the weight of their stories
